Stanley McChrystal, a retired four-star general who led all military operations in Afghanistan and is credited with the 2003 capture of Saddam Hussein, was called “the finest warrior and leader of men in combat I had ever met” by former U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates in his book, Duty.
After tendering his resignation in the wake of a Rolling Stone article in which McChrystal and staffers mocked government officials including Joe Biden, he launched the McChrystal Group in 2011, a consulting firm that works to foster leadership, team-building and adaptability among businesses around the world.
In a recent interview with Spartan Up! Podcast, McChrystal discussed how the notion of complacency can neuter any burgeoning business, particularly ones that have already experienced a modicum of success.
“I think it’s important for people to first understand that what got you there isn’t going to get you further,” McChrystal says. “The organization has got to decide every day that we are gonna literally have to set a new standard for ourselves.”
