Asus ZenFone 2: A good performer but battery could have been better

ASUS ZENFONE 2
Price: Rs 19,999 for 32 GB
Until now only laptops came equipped with 4GB of RAM but Asus has now launched a smartphone that boasts the same power. It was at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas back in January that Asus had announced the ZenFone 2, and now, the Taiwan-based company has launched it in India. Here is our review of the world's first smartphone with 4 GB RAM.
The Asus ZenFone 2 is a perfect combination of beauty with brains. It has a 5.5-inch Gorilla Glass 3 display with good touch response. It has sleek edges and a slightly thick rear that looks good in metallic finish. The volume keys are placed at the back of the phone - like in LG's G2 - and are easily accessible. The power key is placed on the top. Even with slightly unusual placement of keys and size, the ZenFone 2 is easy to grip with one hand.
The highlight of the ZenFone 2 is its performance and it managed to impress me. Instead of the plain vanilla Android UI, Asus has added Zen UI to this phone, which is neat. ZenFone 2 handles basic stuff, such as fetching emails, multi-tab browsing, downloading apps, etc., with ease. But the real test was when I played heavy graphic games --  Real Racing and Asphalt. The phone didn't slow down even once, though it did heat up after an hour of gaming. The overall performance is impressive, considering its price. It has an Intel Atom Z3580 chipset that along with 4 GB RAM makes it a good performer in the mid-segment range.
While the ZenFone 2 is a good performer, the 4 GB RAM effect doesn't seem to show in the benchmark tests. It scores almost similar to my year-old OnePlus One, which is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and 3 GB RAM. On AnTuTu Benchmark, it scored 47,996, which wasn't significantly higher than the Xiaomi Mi 4, or the OnePlus One.
For photography, Asus has added a 13 MP rear camera. The images captured in bright daylight were impressive, but some shots were overexposed. Low-light imaging is just about average as there is visible noise in the images. Whenever turned on, the camera app displayed the number of still images and video (time) that can be captured and saved. The battery was a letdown; it won't even last a day if you are a heavy user.
Bag it or Junk it:
Plus: 4 GB RAM, Performance
Minus: Battery
