Deadly earthquake Nepal – Death count now at 1554 and further rising (remote locations not accountred for)

Update 17:35 UTC : A BIG WORD of THANK YOU to FACEBOOK and all other social networks. I was able to get ,to contact with my friends in Kathmandu shortly after the earthquake happened. They were in the middle of the road out of fear for aftershocks but had a smartphone. Part of the mobile providers were still working (data is not taking a lot of resources compared to voice). This would not have been possible only 20 years ago.
Update 17:28 UTC : Late night in Nepal right now. Outside temperatures in Nepal 12 °C and colder in higher areas. People are or in the open or in shelters due to fear of strong aftershocks. Many of you who traveled to Nepal before will feel sadness for this country as wel as for the image below. We are certain that the temple will be rebuild but it is an horrific view to see it like this.

Update 15:56 UTC : besides the Indians, also the Americans have stressed that they want to help – US Foreign Disaster Assistance: Our thoughts are with the people of Nepal, India, and Bangladesh as a magnitude 7.9 earthquake struck Nepal today, affecting more than 6.6 million people in the region & causing widespread damage. We’re preparing to deploy an assessment team & providing an initial $1 million in immediate humanitarian assistance. Small remark : They have forgotten (deliberately?) to mention the Chinese (12 deaths)

Update 15:10 UTC : This shaking video presumably recorded in Kathmandu by a safety webcam shows the long severe shaking. Imagine that the shaking will be even stronger in the direct epicenter area. The thick brick wall survives the shaking, many other walls did not
Update 14:49 UTC: Professor Max Wyss, who specializes in theoretical prognoses of injuries and fatalities expects : 2000 to 10,000 fatalities and 10,000 to 70,000 injured. ER thinks expect a final outcome to the lower end of this prognosis
Update 14:28 UTC : The usual CRIMINAL rumors are already circulating. DO NOT BELIEVE them. Aftershocks can be expected but nobody can predict how strong they will be and when they will strike. Strong aftershocks can go on for days and even weeks or months. Every region in the world has different aftershock patterns. Update 14:05 UTC : an M 8.0 event known as the 1934 Nepal-Bihar earthquake, occurred in a similar location to the 1988 event. It severely damaged Kathmandu, and is thought to have caused around 10,600 fatalities.

Update 13:23 UTC : In the meantime darkness has fallen over Kathmandu. Due to the state of the roads the limited material available for Search and Rescue, the rescue operation will get into big difficulties until daylight. As seen on many pictures, almost all rescue efforts are done by bare hands. This is a VERY NEGATIVE outlook for the near future.
Update 13:02 UTC : SUPERFAST aid is arriving from India. On board Search and Rescue personnel. What a great move from India !!!
Update 12:49 UTC : We have no word yet from Chinese rescuers being send to Nepal. Nepal will need as much external SaR people as possible. They will have to be flown in from everywhere in the world. Chinese rescue workers are of course also working in China as a lot of damage has been inflicted in Tibet. China reported 7 people killed by this earthquake.
Update 12:46 UTC : The seismogram recorded by Geofon in Kabul. Closer to the epicenter it will be a completely filled up with color!

Important update 11:8 UTC : Based on the USGS intensity values a lot more fatalities are to be expected (depending on the imported shaking values 1400 to 7500 fatalities). Let’s truly hope that we do not reach 1000 but we fear for the villages in the direct epicenter area.

Update 10:59 UTC : 6 people are now reported killed on the Everest (avalanches). Avalanches and landslides will cause many deaths elsewhere in Nepal but nothing is known so far.
Update 10:40 UTC : New fatalities number as reported by REUTERS (we could not get a confirmation elsewhere of this number) : 449 fatalities alone in Nepal so far. To be added 29 from Bangladesh, China and India – preliminary total : 478 Sad!
Update 10:24 UTC : The death toll in Nepal alone has climbed to 202 without 1 person from the direct epicenter area!
Important Update 10:09 UTC : Everything we have reported so far and counting already many fatalities (6 are reported in China) comes from the main populated town like Kathmandu. We have NO REPORT YET from the direct epicenter. Roads towards the hardest hit villages will almost certainly have been devastated and are at no use for rescue personnel. We expect major tragedies in these areas. It will take probably until tomorrow before we have news from the direct epicenter area. Sad, very sad.

Update 09:46 UTC : A friend just reports from Kathmandu : “Lots of casualties around as it is shaking since 2 hrs regularly every 15 minutes we are very much frightening and staying safely outside at outside our open building.”
Important Update 09:29 UTC: At least 150 people killed in Kathmandu, 1 in China, 10 in Pokhara, 2 at Mount Everest Base Camp and 11 in India (2 caused by mass panic)
Update 09:27 UTC : Emergency numbers in Nepal
Update 09:22 UTC : Reports are reaching us that the Base Camp of Mount Everest has been damaged seriously. Some people (number unsure have been killed – to be reconfirmed)
Update 09:20 UTC : As many as 10 people were killed in Nepal’s picturesque Pokhara area. If we overlook the situation we can tell that at this moment we have certainty that at least 100 people were killed during this earthquake. This count has not 1 person from the direct epicenter area.
Update 09:19 UTC : IANS reports that a total of five people, including two children, were killed when buildings collapsed in different parts of Bihar following the earthquake. The two children of the same family died in a wall collapse in Bhagalpur. One person each were killed in Sitamarhi, Darbhanga and Vaishali.

Important Update : USGS had increased the Magnitude to M7.9 at an extreme shallow depth of 15km which means that there will be almost a complete devastation in a radius of 20 km around the epicenter.

Update : Cell phone service is paralyzed throughout Nepal (Tamil news). Strong aftershocks are expected. In fact a M5.5 just happened a few minutes ago. Also aftershocks are expected to be more devastating.
Update : Dr. James Daniel has put all data in his theoretical model and expects in between 1400 and 7500 fatalities. To be trusted shaking intensities are still missing so these numbers are still raw estimates.

Update : Jens and Carlos who are monitoring local media are reporting huge damage in Pokahara and Kathmandu, both cities are at least 70 km from the epicenter.
Update : Based on theoretical models Dr. James Daniell expect losses to be between $250 and $750 million based on early population and intensity estimates
Update : ER expects a lot of fatalities. How many : too soon to make an estimate. Massive landslides alone can count for many. At least one good thing : the earthquake happened during daylight and in the Nepali spring = less victims
A cruel earthquake happened in the pre-Himalaya ranges of Nepal just in between Kathmandu and Pokara. We expected a lot of devastation and massive landslides

Allahabad - When me and sit my chair in my room and my brother taking rest on bed and that time shaking bed and table and chairs and full room after then we come out room and saw that all people in town come out home
Kathmandu - Very strong shaking of about one min felt in kathmandu
bhaktapur - Severe shaking .. several cracks occurred on the floors
Chitwan National Park - No noise. But shaking of buildings and ground continued for several minutes.
Godavari Nepal - Very strong and long lasting quake with sizable damage. Around 11:55 or noon today. Now aftershocks still shaking.
pokhara - a old house has gone severe cracking in Bagar-1, Pokhara
inaruwa - i was lying at bed and suddenly it start to shake with in interval of seconds i saw wild face of earthquake.....

nakhipot - I was around ram department store for grocery when I suddenly felt the fridge shaking which is placed outside the store.Then it all happened at once the ground shook so bad that i literally had to grab the shutter out there,the image you can relate to is as like that of a wooden door thats floating on a sea and you step on to that wooden door and it shakes out of imbalance.and everything inside the fridge fell off just like that,everything on the floor.we people of nakhipot have been now sitting
dhangadhi - oh really i was going to market but suddenly something felt shaking i find tht it was earthquake which shook for 10-15 seconds

Dhaka - i did not see any damage. it was 12:14 pm in Bangladesh, i am staying at the 3rd floor of an six storeyed building. it lasted for more than a minute.
Thimphu - windowa were rattling lasted for about a minute. Frightrning experience!
Dhaka - Water in pool made small tidal wave. Fans and light fixures shook. No damages reported.

faisalabad - My office in five story building and fee light shaking
Dhaka - I was in hotel room on the 18th floor, the room shaked like a small boat on ocean. Nothing is damage.
Naogaon - We felt that our apprtment building was moving from side to side. People from all homes in the building ran out. The water in the pond next to the house was moving from side to side as well. The shaking lasted for several minutes. When it calmed down, everybody went in, but ran out again after 15-20 min when it shaked again, this time a bit less and for a shorter time. This happened right after noon Bangladeshi time 25.4.2015
Dhaka - I am on 4th floor - slow gentle rocking for over a minute - I left and went to the Lobby - as ever, really crowded and nobody else seemed aware. This is a big well-built structure and it moved plenty.
Dhaka - I was able to feel it sitting on my bed. All fans, chandeliers, etc. began to shake. Felt building moving when trying to run downstairs. No damage done personally but there has been damage to several buildings around Dhaka.
Banani,Dhaka - I feel i moving and its take a minute and really its Shaking . but not damaged in my building ,but near to our building have slide damaged. Regards Dalton Zahir
Dhaka - Dhaka - was sitting in my bed with my laptop, sudden i felt the shake vibrated my bed, as i thought that i am in giddy and tidy.....after few seconds, the tremor again shook too strong that my bed shaking like a baby cradle; chairs-tables, cupboard, kitchen crockery, vases shaking; fans and ceiling lamps hanging and in outside buildings are in cradle mode....thousands of residents rushed out of their homes....what a nice earthquake i have ever felt....
Dhaka - I was standing behind my collegue who is working on computer, suddenly he todld me his head is Spinning and ask me to hold him, similiarly i was feeling the same, then i marked that our ceiling fan is moving side by side. Actually it was so big shocked that, we sttuned for few second. then we all left office to outside. Khasru

New Delhi - I was staying on the 22nd floor of the hotel and I felt the bed shaking and noticed the lamp moving. There does not appear to be any damage, as I can see.

Ahmedabad - Table and water in a glass started shaking for a few seconds. Hopefully, it was not my imagination.
noida - Painting were shaking
Kolkata - Bed and hanging lights were shaking and 2nd floor building was swaying....
New Delhi - Three stories house shook for about a minute. No immediate evidence of damage here or around. No indications of panic.

New delhi - I was lying on my bed watching hannah montana and i felt like something shaking.My water bottle was on the bed and the water in it started shaking. Also my bed started shaking. Then i realised it was an earthquake.
Lucknow - Tables anfd chairs felt to be shaking. The whole office building was evacuated.
Delhi - Bed was shaking, felt it even while standing on the floor and fluid in bottles was unstable
Ahmedabad - Chairs start shacking... It was for almost 5 - 8 sec...
New Delhi - No knowledge of damage.
Ahmedabad - felt a smile tremor while standing in my lawn.... It lasted for few seconds... No damage at all
Kolkata - Table swinging
Kolkata - we felt the shaking on groundfloor it was stronh enough to make us run and come out
kolkata - Things started shaking, my chair & desk shaked
patna - Very strong earthqauke felt for 3o seconds
uttar pradesh - A moderate earthquake, i was thinking something and all the things in my room started shaking
ahmedabad - just a weak to light shaking ... fans swinging 2 to 3 inches
jaipur - slight shaking
New Delhi - I was having breakfast when the floor began to shake. I ran down and saw that several others had too. Fortunately, no damages or injuries were caused.
Meerut - Whole office were shkaing. Around 11.50 ist we felt like whole office in a boat. Shaking mild. Longest earthquake felt for moer than 20 secs.
sagarpur - The oil in the bottle was trembling ! I could see all the hanging utensils shaking ! it lasted for about 40 seconds !!!!
New Delhi - No visible damage so far.
Ahmedabad - My Table and chair started shaking side to side very noticeably.
Farakka - The building was shaking violently .
kolkata - to day about 11.40 AM to 12 PM a earth Quack has been felt by all local people.
varanasi - felt for 1-2 mins...Things fell of from places..not quite usual..stairs could be felt shaking too...

delhi - Almost for 3 minutes felt it...
kolkata - HIMALAYAS has a tendency to shake its base plates as its still reorganising as a mountain.but what beats me is the actual epicentre is not supposed to send vibrations here.Har Har MAHADEV
Lucknoow - It was a terrible earthquake. Still I'm feeling the shake in my body. I was sitting on a chair and it suddenly started shaking.

Guwahati - Our office building started vibrating for 15-20 seconds, we left and reached ground floor.
Ahmedabad - Chairs in office were shaking, it was felt for almost 30 seconds.
Ahmedabad - We could see that the fan was off and it started moving from its base. And then we felt that our chair was shaking too. It wasn't major but we could feel the movement easily.
bahadurgarh - I am just working on my laptop, suddenly I feel some shaking.. after 10 min. I search on internet about earthquake.. then I was confirmed that my feeling was correct
mumbai - Was sitting on the bed and could feel the tremor.
kakinada - very mild shake for about half a min
Ahmedabad - Very weak shaking
Wipro - It was quite a fearful experience for all of us as everything started swaying all of a sudden. We were all evacuated from our respective buildings. It was a jarring experience
delhi - it lasted about minute and a half
Kolkata - It was felt on the ground floor and was fairly strong
Bhopal - I felt the toilet seat shake underneath me, for a good minute or two. Made me panic.
Rajahmundry - we felt like having dizziness so we came out to a open space one reported that her water in the bottle was shaking
mumbai - Was sitting on the chair and felt as if I was moving.. wondered if I was feeling dizzy.. But it happened again.. so switched on the news channel.. confirmed it was the earthquake.
Delhi - Just felt the table and chair shaking, no damages.
Mumbai - tremor twice in difference of 10 seconds
Bhubaneswar - It was a light shake. No damages were made. Hope everything is okay out there...
New Town, Rajarhat. Kolkata - Head Spinning, Felt like falling over.
Kolkata - We felt the tremor for about 15 seconds, chairs and fans were swaying, peoples rushed out of office and guest house. Still all are outside fearing another wave may hit !
Jaipur - I was working on PC on second floor of an organization.my hands was on table and I felt some vibrations in table & lcd monitor as my hands was touched to the table.I thought I am tired so that I felt it and ignored it.But after 15 minutes I got a msg on whatsapp from one of my relative lives in Jaipur City asking me about any vibrations I felt,then I became sure about the earthquake I felt.The time was 11:45 am (GMT+5:30). Thanks
Kolkata - Was on bed, suddenly felt it was shaking. Around 12.00-12.21 IST felt a mild shake to.....could be aftershock........

Kolkata - There were massive, strong & shaky tremors. All the ceiling fans in our office building were swinging. All the staff in our NCSM office rushed to the open area on Ground Floor through Staircases. It definitely will result in the loss of life & property. A second one was felt at around 12.21IST, which equally strong 6+ magnitude.
Ranchi - We were in the office doors of almirah getting trembling. Getting the note of earthquake we all officials rushed out of the office
Ahmedabad - Moderate shaking of Chair but vertical blinds shook in cabin without ventilation or air circulation. Thank God as there is no damage.

Lucknow - Initially the bed started shaking n then the floor n the walls started shaking. The tremors were felt for around 2 min. After shock were felt about 25 min later for around 20 sec.

Bareilly - I was in mg class. Sitting on the front bench. Suddenly fely uneasy and felt the bench was shaking with very low frequency. But no one else was aware of it.

Greater Noida - The most peculiar aspect of this earthquake was its duration in addition to the intensity. The after shock after about half an hour was also quite strong. It was quite frightening as all the hangings like fans, wind chimes and lights were moving side ways. It was the strongest in my live memory.
allahabad - about 11:45 ,it was felt that the surface was shaking badly and vibrating also ,the second shock also felt at 12:20 which was of moderate magnitude I think it would again happen today,no damage heard yet.
Muzaffarpur - no property damage.tremors felt repeatedly for 3 hours in intervals
raxaul - 1st time in life felt such a threatning experience
meerut - i felt it for more than 30 sec.at first and a somewhat less in magnitude at second time.its causing me a headache upto 2 hrs.i made members evacuate the gym which is at 3rd floor.it was fourth occasion in my life to feel it,but it was strongest.
Ahmedabad - Very weak shaking, no damage at all

U.P Lucknow - I was inside in my classroom in Greenland public school my table and chair are vibrating very much. After 1second my sports sir has said in shouting that move from classrooms. And we run very fast.

Kolkata - I was studying when I suddenly saw the water inside my bottle ripple....it was also difficult to walk steadily at the 3rd floor of my house. Altogether a terrifying experience!
Lucknow - No damage but strong shaking last for 1 - 2 min. around 11:45 am and also felt a strong aftershock around 12: 15 pm
Kolkata - At that time, I was lying on the bed and reading book in the house. For 2 minutes, I felt the bed was shaking a little bit. After 1 minute I got down and observed the bed. Then I felt my head spinning, as though felt like falling over. Later the things were normal. At the same time my mother-in-law also felt things shaking a little bit. Later we saw TV news where we heard there was earthquake in Nepal, Kolkata too. Then we came to know that what's happened in the house was due to earthquake.
Imphal - Shacking well with 2-3 minutes , movement of staying cars and bikes can be seen!

Kanpur - My appartment is on the 8th floor and it felt like the building swung to and fro for a few seconds and then it started shaking for the next 20 Seconds. No damage to property or life but the experience was damn scary.
Kanpur - Since we were already outside in the park after the first quake, the effect of this one was less. I could still feel the tremors beneath my feet as it lasted for less than 10 seconds
Meerut - I was in my school and was studying on 4 th floor suddenly I felt that my desk and chair is moving I screamed whole school shouted then 1 of a teacher of our school ordered us to go in the ground whole school gathered including all students and teachers.

Allahabad - I was having tea in my Office around 11:56am & suddenly I felt my Office floor was shaking.. we ran outside immediately.
KAKINADA - I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCED SINCE 11.55 AM IST , AFTER THAT I SEARCHED THE LATEST NEWS THEN I GOT CLEAR INFORMATION THAT NEPAL EXPERINCED EARTHQUAKE WHICH WAS 7.9 , MASSIVE DESTRUCTION TILL NOW 1000 PERSON GOT DEATH.

SURAT - I felt my head spinning and I experienced such feeling on 26/01/2001 at the time of Kutchh Earthquake in Gujarat. This time I observed ceiling fan and water tumbler on my table but could not detect shaking. All the same , very mild effect here in Surat, Gujarat ( India)

Lift was not working..... overall it was a very terrified moment for everyone...Some Apartment building and home has got severe cracks.. no death casualties!!

Kolkata - I have never faced such an experience regarding earthquake. I was working in office, in 5th floor, suddenly felt a huge shake in my chair. Firstly I thought it might be due to sudden roundrobin occuring in myself. But suddenly felt that it's going on. I lifted myself and found the chair is constantly shaking too much. Felt too much headache and ran out of building. Found some hair cracks in the glasses of 5th floor.
UP - I was sitting in my class room,suddenly at 11:45 the benches started to shaking,the process were continued about 5minutes
Guwahati - It was horrific indeed as we felt the tremors for 1 min approx shaking the building and high tension power lines clearly visible swinging.

Kolkata - My office is in Commerce house 5th floor. We all felt this earthquake, all the ceiling fans were swinging. People from all the offices in commerce ran through staircase to the outside area. After effects was very strong.

laxminagar newdelhi - i was in the home & felt moving strongly I didn't knew it was earth quake thought it was due to headache but when I check the doors it was also moving & checked out & confirmed it was earthquake after some time there was again shaking.
Ahmedabad - We were in the office @ 9th floor of the building when I experienced dizziness but by the time of few seconds came to know that it was earthquake and we all ran out of the building. This was experienced two times. Was little bit in shock but thank god there was no damages.
Siliguri - Extremely strong shaking but unlike the last major quake, it was gentler. I was at City centre inox at 4th floor and the whole building was shaking like hell. Lots of cracks observed. False ceiling fell down inside the cinema hall.
Patna - Felt very strong shocks. Even the aftershocks at 12.15 IST was very strong and along with it rain too started. All the vehicles in the parking were shaking. Not so much of damaged reported in the city.
Krishnanagar nadia west Bengal - Chairs in office were shaking, it was felt for almost 30 seconds.

SHAHDOL - Cars, motor cycles parked on the parking lot were started shaking around 11:40 am. It lasted for approximately 25 seconds. Everyone came outside as glass on the windows brakes. This earthquake gave us goosebumps and it's both magnificent and horrible experience to witness a live earthquake.
Noida - No damage, but enough to send people outdoors into open areas.
kolkata - Strong tremor enough for disequilibrium & vertigo for 2 mins continuously.some cracks seen in walls.second shock after 30 mins & that was for 15 secs.
Delhi - Nothing had been damaged, as the epicentre of the Earthquake was in Nepal.
Visakhapatnam - Everything was shaking. I felt it very less but in many parts of vizag where my friends live they have experienced the worst
